Restorative Yoga Rituals for Deeper, More Restful Sleep

Better Sleep 1

Let Go of the Day and Drift Into Healing Rest!

Do you find yourself tossing and turning at night, your mind racing just when your body longs for stillness?

You’re not alone. Poor sleep has become a common challenge—whether it’s struggling to fall asleep, waking in the night, or feeling groggy even after eight hours in bed. And it impacts everything—mood, immunity, hormone balance, weight, and emotional wellbeing.

The good news? You don’t need to chase complicated solutions. Sometimes, the most powerful remedies are the gentlest ones.

Better Sleep 1

Yin yoga offers a calm, nourishing path to better sleep.

It’s about slowing down your system, easing out of “fight or flight” mode, and gently guiding your body and mind toward true rest.

Why Sleep Can Be So Elusive

Modern life often keeps us in a constant state of doing. Screens, deadlines, and emotional stress all feed the nervous system with signals to stay alert. Over time, this can disrupt the natural rhythm of sleep hormones like melatonin and cortisol.

Even if your body is tired, your nervous system might be stuck in “on” mode.

Yoga helps switch that off.

How Yoga Supports Deeper Sleep

  • Activates the Relaxation Response
Yin yoga slows your breath, calms your heart rate, and tells your body: it’s safe to let go. This prepares you for deeper, uninterrupted sleep.
  • Eases Physical Tension
Stretches and supported poses release tight hips, shoulders, and back muscles—helping you avoid the restlessness that keeps you awake.
  • Balances the Nervous System
Mindful breathing and stillness regulate your autonomic nervous system, which controls your sleep-wake cycle.
  • Creates a Bedtime Ritual
A consistent, gentle yoga routine in the evening teaches your body that it’s time to wind down—just like brushing your teeth or dimming the lights.

Try This: Your 10-Minute Sleep Reset Practice

  • Alternate Nostril Breathing (3 minutes)
Close your right nostril with your thumb, inhale through the left. Close left nostril, exhale through right. Then inhale right, exhale left. Repeat to balance the hemispheres of the brain and calm the mind.
  • Supported Child’s Pose (3 minutes)
Kneel and fold forward, placing a cushion or bolster under your chest and head. Let your arms rest beside you. Breathe deeply into your back and hips, releasing the day.
  • Reclined Bound Angle Pose (3 minutes)
Lie on your back with soles of the feet together and knees falling out to the sides, supported by cushions. Place a soft blanket over you and allow gravity to ground you. Stay here, simply breathing.
  • Simple Stillness (1 minute)
Place one hand over your heart, the other on your belly. Breathe into both hands.

Affirmation for Better Sleep

“I am safe. I am held. I welcome peaceful rest.”

Repeat this quietly to yourself before bed, during breathwork, or anytime anxiety or restlessness arise in the evening.

Essential Oil for Deep Sleep

Bergamot – Calming and uplifting, bergamot helps ease anxiety and emotional tension without sedation. Diffuse a few drops an hour before bed or mix with a carrier oil and rub into your chest or feet.
