Merrifield House is surrounded by lush green fields and picturesque panoramic views of Dartmoor National Park. Located just off the A379, between Churchstow (1 mile) and Aveton Gifford (2 miles); and Kingsbridge (3.5 miles) and Salcombe (7 miles).

Ideal to enjoy walking the South West Coastal Path, swimming, cycling, surfing, sailing, and exploring local beaches, nearby quaint towns and the mysterious moors – the perfect base for a yoga retreat, independent weekend break or extended holiday.

Neighbouring Kingsbridge & Salcombe are charming estuary towns in the South Hams, an Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Both towns have a range of independent shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and pubs. In addition, Kingsbridge has a cinema, leisure centre (with swimming pool and gym) and two supermarkets.

Directions

If you are driving to Merrifield House, you may find these directions useful. Please do not use the post code in SAT NAV, as it will take you to a neighbouring farm. Instead use the search term 'MERRIFIELD HOUSE KINGSBRIDGE' in Google Maps.

Coming from Churchstow: From Bantham Cross roundabout, take A379 towards Aveton Gifford/ Plymouth. Approx. third of a mile off roundabout, turn right off A379 (if you reach the Natural Burial Ground, you have gone too far).

Coming from Aveton Gifford: At the top of Aveton Gifford hill (just after Natural Burial Ground seen on right hand side), turn left off A379.

After you have turned off the A379, you will turn onto a small lane. You will find Merrifield House towards the bottom of the lane on the left. Please drive mindfully as you enter the property grounds - there is plenty of parking at the REAR of the house - ideally park on the RIGHT hand side of the carpark.

CAR

We are located approx. 3.5 miles outside Kingsbridge. We recommend you have a car if you are coming to stay with us. Please see DIRECTIONS above for further information.

TRAIN

Our closest train station is Totnes, with direct links from/to London, Bristol, Exeter, and Plymouth. Travel on the Paddington to Plymouth train line and alight at either Totnes (16 miles) or Plymouth (20 miles). From Totnes, or Plymouth you can catch a bus to Kingsbridge, Churchstow or Aveton Gifford (please see below). Thereafter, you will need a short taxi ride to Merrifield House (3.5 miles).

BUS

Our closest bus stops are Churchstow, Aveton Gifford and Kingsbridge. Monday through Saturday (except bank holidays) we are serviced by the Dartmouth/Plymouth line – Stagecoach #3 (alight at Churchstow (1 mile), Aveton Gifford (2 miles) or Kingsbridge (3.5 miles). On Sundays and bank holidays, we are serviced by the Dartmouth/ Kingsbridge line – Stagecoach #3 (alight at Kingsbridge (3.5 miles). Thereafter, you will need a short taxi ride to Merrifield House (3.5 miles).

COACH

A coach service is available from London Victoria Coach Station to Plymouth. It is possible either direct or with one change usually in either Bristol or Exeter. This can be booked in advance from either National Express or Mega Bus. Thereafter, you will need a connecting bus or taxi to Merrifield House (20 miles).

PLANE

Travel from Exeter Airport or Newquay Airport. There are regular direct flights from Amsterdam (Flybe to Exeter), Berlin (Eurowings to Newquay) and connecting flights from other UK airports.

BUS - KINGSBRDIGE: 15 to £20 .

Parking & access

The arrival and departure time for retreat guests, will be listed within your retreat booking confirmation email (in most cases it will be 16:00pm arrival and 12:00pm departure, however please check event listing and confirmation email).

The arrival and departure time for independent guests is 17:00pm check-in and 10:00am check-out.

Room Two (Hala Shala) is available via the upstairs door, and Room One (Ustra Shala) and Three (Matsya Shala) are available via the downstairs door. All rooms are accessible without having to navigating stairs. There is a large ramp with a handrail leading to the upstairs room, via our main front door. Please note, there are 3 small steps at both the upstairs and downstairs entrances, which should be considered for anyone with concerns about mobility.

We have a free off-road carpark, which you are welcome to use. However, we kindly request that you car share where possible. Our property entrances and carpark is installed with exterior security cameras.

Transfers

All guests are responsible for their own transport to and from Merrifield House.

However, we aim to be as helpful and flexible as we can.

Therefore, if at all possible, we are happy to offer free picks up from Kingsbridge, Churchstow and Aveton Gifford, subject to availability.

Relaxation Package at Merrifield House – From the moment I arrived Donna was the perfect host. Fresh juice on arrival and a little chat about what I wanted from my relaxation package was the perfect way to settle in. My room, aka The Green Room or Ustra Shala was very welcoming and calming. The room has everything you need including a great selection of teas and a little sweet treat! The bed was unbelievably comfortable with lovely crisp white linen (I slept all night which is a rarity for me).

Immensely enjoyable [Yoga Retreat]. Loved being in the open air practising yoga and loved the connection with Donna, who was very helpful and supportive all weekend. Excellent choice of locations and settings for the yoga. Beautiful breakfasts to set you up for the day and good to have the opportunity to sort out your own lunch and evening meal. The snug was a lovely intimate place for getting to know other guests in a relaxed way, and it was easy to come and go, exploring the spacious and airy site and surroundings, after chatting in the snug. I’m glad I took the opportunity to try the SUP yoga – it was more accessible than I thought (I hadn’t experienced paddle boarding before). The weekend offered challenge but in relaxing and encouraging ways.

I have just come back from one of the my best weekends of my life! I went there with my daughter as she was celebrating her 21st and I am turning 50 soon 🙁 and we met other lovely people along the way! The accommodation was lovely and Super clean. Donna had thought of everything as my daughter is celiac – she provided completely gluten free options. We ate and chilled out in the ‘snug’ chalet which was so cosy with the fire. The food was amazing – home cooked and super tasty – I loved the energy balls and juice on arrival. We did 5 yoga sessions and each one completely different! There was beach yoga, SUP yoga, yoga inside and outside. Donna has obviously got a lot of experience in Yoga and made the classes suitable for beginners like ourselves. Swimming the sea was something I did not think I would enjoy but it was amazing and a picnic gazing over the sea with homemade treats felt great She made me love my body and introduced us to more of the sights, smells and noise of the outdoors. We even got to see a full sky of stars with hot chocolate one night and spotted a seal in the sea too! The location near the Devon coastline is just what i needed coming from the midlands! I would highly recommend Donna’s Yoga retreat or any of her classes – It makes you feel wonderful. Thank you, Donna, for a BRILLIANT weekend. I shall never forget it.
