Good nutrition is vital for a healthy digestive system.
It is responsible for absorbing nutrients and eliminating waste. Sadly, many people suffer from digestive problems like bloating, wind, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and constipation.
A healthy diet is also essential for a strong immune system, which offers protection against seasonal illness such as the coughs, colds, flu and other health issues including arthritis, allergies, skin problems, infections, aches and pains.
Research supports eating fermented foods, which help to support both the digestive and immune systems by helping to increase probiotics in the gut, decreasing gut inflammation and promoting bowel health.
Examples of fermented foods include kefir, kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut, tempeh, raw apple cider vinegar (with mother).
Health Benefits of Water Kefir
Due to the fermentation process of bacteria in the yeasts, water kefir is an excellent source of living probiotics, healthy bacteria, yeast and nutrients for our body. The yeasts are converted into simple sugars, lactic, and acetic acids, carbon dioxide, and ethanol. Furthermore, it is loaded with enzymes, digestible sugars and beneficial vitamins and minerals.

Tips to Make Your Own Water Kefir at Home
Combine the water kefir grains with sugar water. Allow them to culture for 1 or 3 days with the ideal temperature for fermenting 68-85F. Cover your container; but allow it to breathe.
Remove the water kefir grains, and either store or start another brew. If you wish to add flavour, do that now by adding fruit or fruit puree, or juice. Seal your container and allow a second ferment. Burp your container regularly to prevent gas build up.
When ready, keep your water kefir in the refrigerator. It will be last for 2-3 weeks.
Do not allow the grains to come into contact with metal. Use glass jars and plastic utensils.
Tips for Consuming
Start, by drinking a small quantity and gradually increase, to allow the body to get used to its powerful properties.
You can drink as a beverage or add into smoothies and desserts.
Ensure that it does not smell or have a thick texture.
If you experience a headache, nausea, or diarrhoea, reduce consumption, and build back up.
