A subject that comes up again and again after class, is that of balancing the hormones, at all stages of our life and moon cycles…. Personally, one of my favourite go-to’s is ‘maca’ – this amazing Peruvian herb has help me beyond believe through early menopause! Read below to find out more about this super food.
What is Maca?
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is the root of a vegetable native to the Andes region of Peru. Known as “Peruvian Ginseng” (even though it doesn’t belong to the same botanical family as ginseng), maca is consumed as a food and is said to boost energy and libido. Typically, is can be added to smoothies, juice, and shakes. The ground root powder can also be used as an ingredient in foods such as coffee, chocolate or oils.
Maca Latte – Health Highlights:
A creamy hot maca latte is an earthy, warming and delicious beverage; a great way to restore energy.
- An adaptogen
- Restore energy and vitality
- Regulates stress
- Supports adrenals
- Promotes sexual health
- Balances hormones
- Reduce menopausal symptoms
- ½ teaspoon of maca powder
- 1 tablespoon coconut sugar or maple syrup (optional)
- 1 ¼ cups of cashew milk
- Combine all ingredients together in a blender
- Blend for one minute to break down the sugar and mix the dry ingredients into the milk
- Pour into a saucepan
- Heat on a low setting until warm (do not boil)
- Briefly whisk
- Serve and enjoy
